World Cup Celebration Turns Scary in Mumbai as Fireworks Rocket Hits Apartment
A major accident was averted in Mumbai's Bandra during the celebration of Team India's victory in the T20 World Cup 2026. The firecracker rocket fell into the balcony of a building. The fire brigade reached the spot and brought the situation under control. No one was injured.
Mumbai: The Indian cricket team won the T20 World Cup 2026 trophy by dusting New Zealand at the Narendra Modi Stadium in Ahmedabad. But in Mumbai’s Bandra area, the celebration turned into panic when a rocket lit in the joy of victory entered a flat of a residential building.
The incident took place in Nirmala Colony of Bandra West. According to eyewitnesses, when the celebrations of Team India’s historic 96-run win were going on late at night, a fireworks rocket released from the bottom fell directly into the balcony of an apartment. As soon as the balcony caught fire, the flames started rising.
I was in trouble last night
The entire Mumbai was on the roads after the match ended, but the accident created a stampede among local residents. On receiving information, Mumbai fire brigade vehicles reached the spot. Fortunately, firefighters managed to douse the flames in a timely manner, averting a major accident. Relief is that there were no casualties in the entire incident.

Ashish Shelar, a local MLA and minister in the Maharashtra government, himself commanded the incident. Giving updates on social media platform ‘X’ at around 3 pm, he said he was in constant touch with officials. Shelar confirmed that the fire of Nirmala Colony has now been completely extinguished and police and administration teams are monitoring the situation at the spot.
Historic victory
Batting first, India scored 255 runs in the final. In reply, Kiwi were bowled out for 159. India’s third T20 World Cup victory has made the entire country proud, although this event in Bandra has once again raised big questions about safety measures during the festival.
